It combines a powerful torque motor with a Harmonic Drive gearbox and a torque sensor which was specifically developed and adapted for this application. The result is an ultra compact unit which combines motor, gearbox, encoder and torque sensor on a length of not even 85mm. With a total weight of scarcely 450 g and a maximum torque of 11 Nm, the drive unit achieves an excellent weight-torque-ratio at an amazingly low energy consumption. The integrated torque sensor in combination with a control algorithm optimized by us enables a sensitive and dynamic control of the motor. It goes without saying that HERBIE can be adjusted to suit your individual application at any time.

The photo shows HERBIE as a trade fair demonstration with a torque sensor on the output side (in combination with slip ring) and a torque sensor at the motor housing. With this the concepts of measuring the real torque (output) compared to the measuring of the reactional torque (housing) can be compared and “sensed”.
