
Olis, Inc CPL SOLO - CPL Spectrophotometer
The modern specific-application spectrometer for highest research grade circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) and anisotropy for laboratories working on OLED development, lanthanide characterization, or protein fold-unfolding transitions. The CPL Solo collects fluorescence, CPL, and polarization of fluorescence directly, perfectly, and without G-factor corrections using a patented electro-optical method.
SAMPLE COMPARTMENT is the Polarization Toolbox, housing a 1 cm2 sample holder, which can be replaced with a thin film holder or other accessory. The polarizer(s) and the photoelastic modulator within the Polarization Toolbox are accessible for optional removal between experiments.
EXCITATION SOURCE is a highly stable LED operating with microsecond precision on-off cycles that determines the excitation wavelength. Moving to a different excitation wavelength is done by exchanging one LED Tube for another. The LED itself and all electronics are contained within the LED Tube for fail-safe handling. Purchase additional LED Tubes separately to expand the excitation wavelengths supported.
EMISSION SCANNING is achieved by a compact high throughput single grating monochromator with filter holder (for optional stray light reduction) and a wavelength range of 300-800 nm. A NIR monochromator is available at additional cost.
EMISSION DETECTION is done with the exquisitely sensitive Hamamatsu gated photon counting detector with spectral range of 230-870 nm, controlled and read by the OLIS FPGA code. The counts streaming from the photon counting photomultiplier are routed to a 'left' counter and a 'right' counter and in appropriate phase relationship to the operation of the PEM in the analyzer's optical train. Left and right counts are accumulated until a useful signal-to-noise ratio has been achieved. CPL data acquisition can last hours and longer, so the absolute stability of the direct, digital OLIS method greatly enhances the likelihood of successful results. A NIR detector is available at additional cost.
SOFTWARE is the OLIS SpectralWorks data acquisition/analysis/instrument control program which employs the mathematics for calculating CPL directly from fluo(L) and fluor(R) raw signals. The result is perfect CPL without a lock-in amplifier, G-factors, or electronic calibration. Everything for 2D and 3D data acquisition and analysis is handled by the seamlessly integrated OLIS GlobalWorks software. After spectra are acquired, they can be saved as binary, ASCII, Excel, or JPG. Analysis options include an exhaustive selection of 2D data manipulation choices (smoothing, derivatives, exponentials, subtraction, etc.) as well as kinetic fits. Three-dimensional data can be analyzed with Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) to reduce RMS noise by 40-fold while also determining number of species in the reaction, followed optionally by spectral reconstruction of the starting, final, and any spectral intermediate forms using Downhill Simplex and Matrix Exponentiation.
HARDWARE: All electronics to operate the excitation source, emission channel, and acquisition from the detector are housed in free-standing small boxes; everything runs through the OLIS verified processor with 3rd Gen. Intel Core i3-3240 3.4GHz, 4GB DDR3, 1TB HDD 7,200RPM, DVD-RW drive, 6 Total USB 2.0 Ports. Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (English version required).
