An absorbance and fluorescence spectrophotometer useful for measurement of clear and turbid samples in the UV/Vis spectral region. Detection range is from 240-870 nm, and the lamps used in the instrument is a deuterium lamp and a tungsten lamp.
Key to the scatter immunity is a novel sample holder, which employs a "gas of photons" as the measurement beam and has an effective pathlength 30 centimeters depending on the volume of the holder. This unique DSPC sample holder (DeSa Suspension Presentation Cavity) is available in 8 mL volumes. The 8 mL cavity can be filled with suspension or used in conjunction with an NMR tube. The DSPC is equipped with stirring capabilities.
The provided single monochromator uses a grating blazed at 350 nm with manual slits (0.12, 0.6, 1.24, 3.16 and 6.32mm) supplying bandwidths of 0.5, 2.5, 5.0, 12.5 and 25 nm respectively. The detector, mounted at the emission monochromator, is a Photon Counting Module with a detection range of 230-870 nm. This low light level detector combines the sensitivity of a photomultiplier tube with the intelligence of a microprocessor controller to provide a detector module of exceptional sensitivity, accuracy, and speed.
The CLARiTY VF is useful with suspensions, such as algae, intact mitochondria and cytochromes, blood and tissue cells, milk and juice, and other historically 'impossibly turbid' samples. Solids, such as tissue, leaves, meat, grapes, etc. are handled in the 8 mL cavity with the sample in a disposable test tube.
