Collect phosphorescence lifetime measurements in the microsecond range using the OLIS PLT3, which acquires and displays a full 100 point decay curve with each excitation pulse.
Excitation is generated by a filtered 6 watt xenon arc lamp, optionally augmented by a wavelength specific LED. The 6 watt Xe flash lamp has a minimum cycle time of 6000 µs. If a sample has a 5µs decay time of 1000 µs, then the sample will sit inactive for 5000 µs before the next flash trigger.
Xenon arc lamps are 100x - 1000x brighter than LEDs, with a trade-off in slower pulse rates. The Xe flashes are fast (<5 µs duration, no pulse-width modulation) but capacitor recharge time is slow compared to on-off switching of LEDs, so there will be longer periods between flashes. It will take longer to collect the same number of scans using the Xe flash over an LED, but, the higher intensity means good S/N fitting with fewer total averages to produce similar results.
Dim phosphorescent samples and those with long-lived lifetimes (>1ms) are handled well by the pulse xenon arc; add the LED option (next item) to expand utility for use shorter lifetime studies.
The OLIS PLT3 data acquisition scheme uses sophisticated FPGA code which contains 100 photon counters which sequentially receive the output of the exquisitely sensitive single photon counting PMT detector. Win 10 hardware and software are included.
Compact sample compartment houses an ambient 1 cm2 cuvette holder (or optional Peltier holder for temperature dependent studies, listed separately) and mounting ports for the standard lamp, detector, and optional LED enhancement.
