An absorbance spectrophotometer useful for measurement of clear and turbid samples in the
UV/Vis spectral region. Wavelength range supported is from 250-780 nm (extending to
1100nm is available at additional cost). Broadband (white) light is produced by a
deuterium/tungsten source for stable and bright throughput. The source is equipped with a
integrated TTL-controlled shutter to protect the sample from photolysis when data collection is
not in process. The detector is a back-thinned CCD image sensor with 2048 pixels. Unlike
popular diode array spectrometers such as the HP/ Agilent 8452/3 series, this new competitive
model is faster, far more sensitive, modular, and successful with suspensions as well as clear
solutions. Key to the scatter immunity is a novel sample holder, which employs a "gas of
photons" as the measurement beam and has an effective pathlength of 20-30 centimeters. This
unique DSPC sample holder (DeSa Suspension Presentation Chamber) is available in 1mL, 4
mL, and 8 mL volumes (customer to specify at time of purchase).
The CLARiTY CCD is useful with suspensions, such as intact mitochondria and cytochromes,
blood and tissue cells, and other historically 'impossibly turbid' samples.
