analog-to-digital card. Fully digital design means that all sorting, summing, ratioing, logarithms,
noise filtering, et cetera, of raw digital data are done by the OLIS CD SpectralWorks program,
our fully Windows 7 compatible software for providing maximum flexibility in operation and
data handling.

6，CPL is collected in an entirely modern digital manner, too. The counts streaming from the photon counting photomultiplier are alternately routed to a 'left' counter and a 'right' counter in synchrony and in appropriate phase relationship to the operation of the PEM in the analyzer's optical train. Left and right counts are accumulated until a useful signal-to-noise ratio has been achieved. CPL data acquisition can last hours and longer, so the absolute stability of the Olis method greatly enhances the likelihood of successful results. The identical hardware plus a vertical polarizer in the excitation path can be used for polarization of fluorescence data, too, in which a method we refer to as the '74 method is used. (See Wampler, J. E. and DeSa, R. J. (1974) Anal. Chem. 46, 563.) This '74 method produces markedly superb data to the analog method
